How does Zoton (Lansoprazole) work?
The active ingredient of Zoton tablets, Lansoprazole, is a selective proton pump inhibitor used in the treatment of excess stomach acid and acid reflux, also known as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GORD). Acid reflux is commonly caused by weakening of the lower sphincter muscle of the oesophagus. This muscle plays a key role in the prevention and escape of stomach acid from the gut. Progressive weakening of this sphincter muscle, in addition to the production of excess acid in the stomach, often results in stomach acid escaping up and into the oesophagus causing the painful symptoms associated with acid reflux.
The active ingredient of Zoton Fastab, lansoprazole, works to treat symptoms of acid reflux by selectively acting on proton pumps located at the surface of gastric parietal cells lining the stomach. These cells are involved in the production of gastric acid and its subsequent secretion into the stomach. Lansoprazole partially inhibits a crucial stage of this system resulting in the reduction of gastric acid production and secretion in the stomach.
