Zolmitriptan 2.5mg tablets are commonly prescribed for use in the treatment of migraine and cluster headache.
Zolmitriptan is a serotonin receptor agonist, belonging to a class of drugs known as the triptans. Zolmitriptan tablets work to treat the root cause of migraines through a complex neurological mechanism of action. By acting on serotonin (5HT) receptors, Zolmitriptan tablets enable the narrowing of blood vessels in the brain. This contricting effect is what results in the effective treatment of migraine and its associated symptoms.
Migraine is defined as a moderate to severe headache. Indicative signs of migraine are a throbbing pain on the side of the head often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, as well as a heightened sensitivity to light and/or sound, referred to as aura. In certain individuals these associated symptoms can be experienced without a headache in what is called a silent migraine.

Migraine symptoms have been linked to the temporary widening of blood vessels in the brain, resulting in the throbbing like pain commonly associated with migraine. Zolmitriptan is a selective serotonin (5HT) receptor agonist. It works to treat migraine symptoms by specifically acting on serotonin receptors in the brain, stimulation of which results in the narrowing of blood vessels returning them back to their original state.
