Fexofenadine Tablets

Allergic reactions happen when an allergen triggers an immune response in the body. This response involves the release of antibodies, which trigger a cascade of events, one of which is the release of the chemical compound histamine. Histamine is a key component in the development of allergy related symptoms. Fexofenadine tablets work to alleviate symptoms of hay fever, and other common allergies, by stopping the release of histamine in the body. This helps to treat hay fever related symptoms such as:

• sneezing
• a runny or blocked nose
• red, itchy, watery eyes
• wheezing and coughing
• a red, itchy rash
• worsening of asthma or eczema symptoms

Fexofenadine tablets provide a fast and effective solution to regaining control over your allergies and your day-to-day life. They have a fast onset of action, meaning they work quickly to provide you with symptomatic relief. Unlike other non-prescription antihistamines, Fexofenadine tablets are non-sedating, meaning there is less likelihood of you experiencing drowsiness as a side effect.

The recommended starting dose of Fexofenadine tablets in accordance with the British National Formulary (BNF) is 120mg once daily.

Fexofenadine 120mg tablets are licensed for use in Adults 18 years or older for the treatment of seasonal allergic rhinitis, or hay fever.

Fexofenadine tablets should be taken once daily, as a single dose. They should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew fexofenadine tablets. They can be taken with or after food or on an empty stomach. Where possible attempt to avoid drinking apple juice or orange juice whilst using Fexofenadine tablets as both drinks may decrease its exposure and therefore its effectiveness.

Fexofenadine 120mg & 180mg tablets are not suitable for use in women during pregnancy or breast feeding.

Although considered to be a non-sedating non-drowsy antihistamine, fexofenadine tablets may cause drowsiness in a very small percentage of patients. Therefore, when first taking the medication it should be avised that performance of skilled tasks may be effected (e.g. cycling or driving); alcohol should also be avoided whilst taking fexofenadine tablets.

Symptoms of hay fever, or seasonal allergic rhinitis, are caused by the bodies release of the chemical compound histamine in response to its exposure to an allergen. Fexofenadine 120mg tablets work to combat the symptoms of an allergic reaction by preventing histamine release in the body.

Side effects commonly associated with Fexofenadine 120mg tablets include:

• Headache
• Blurred vision
• Dry mouth
• GI disturbances
